Jarvis Racing: Tong Mudbath - Rd 1 of the UK Extreme Championship

A third-place finish for Jono in harsh conditions for round 1 of the UK Extreme Championship

Last Sunday (13/2/2022) saw Jarvis Racing compete in Rd1 of the Uk Extreme Championship.  Jono Richardson and Sam Winterburn kickstarted their UK Extreme Championship campaigns at the Parkwood Off Road Centre at Tong, near Bradford. UK weather was in full force on race day as riders took on the harsh conditions in Tong. The rain persisted throughout creating slippery and muddy conditions for the riders- adding to an already difficult course.

The day consisted of seven laps, a morning session beginning at 9.30 AM and an afternoon session beginning at 12.30 PM. Unfortunately, the awful conditions killed Sams' Husqvarna TE 300i 25 minutes into his first lap meaning he was not able to finish the race. However, Jono finished the race in an impressive third place overall, only narrowly missing second place on the podium. A positive result for team Jarvis given the circumstances of the weather and Sam suffering from his bike shutting up shop for the day.

Jono commented;

"A positive start to the UK Extreme Championship. Happy to grab a top 3 spot though disappointed I couldn't push that extra few seconds to clinch 2nd or maybe even take top spot from the World Champion!. Billy rode well as you'd expect him to but he had to push throughout''

A very frustrated Sam commented;

"Not the start to the Championship that I wanted but these things happen. I was very unfortunate in this race breaking down 25 minutes in. It's a big disadvantage having a DNF but I'm excited to bounce back and become successful at this year's championship! Really happy for Jono doing the team proud"

Jarvis was sunning himself in Spain, not up to his neck in Yorkshire mud but was following closely...

''The UK extreme championships are always difficult. I feel sorry for Sam after having bike difficulties in the team's last two races in the Valleys and in Tong. Jono's in excellent form though and he's really showing everyone what he's made of. I'm excited for the next race in Cowm Quarry to see how the championship develops and then we're on to Isreal for a special desert race which couldn't be further removed from Tong!''
